It’s that time of year again: Pi(e) Nite! Join us for talks on climate solutions & roller derby! Plus, we’ll have the usual awesome trivia & door prize, plus PIE! Save your loonies and toonies and join us for a nerdy Nite with pie!

Talk # 1: Climate Solutions: What really works

Climate change is one of the most complex societal problems the world faces today, encompassing environmental, economic, political and ethical issues. Hear what the science says, how human psychology plays into public perceptions, and what types of solutions actually work

Dr. Raluca Ellis is a researcher in Science Content & Design and environmental scientist for the Ontario Science Centre. Prior to joining the Ontario Science Centre, Dr. Ellis was Program Director for the Climate & Urban Systems Partnership, a multi-city program designed to enable informed responses to climate change impacts in urban areas, led by The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Dr. Ellis holds a doctoral degree in environmental chemistry from the University of Toronto and was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University.

 

 

 

Talk # 2: Get Low and Pass the Panty: A Derby Talk

You don’t know what roller derby is? Well, you’re in for a treat! Roller derby is an awesome full-contact sport that’s played on quad skates! There are many parts to a roller derby game, including skaters, referees, and officials. You’ll learn all about roller derby at this talk, including why you need to get low and pass the panty!

This talk is brought to you by TabasHo and Manic Pixel Dream Girl! We are from Toronto Roller Derby and we play for the Toronto Vipers. We both started in September, unable to stand on quad skates, and now we are both playing the game and loving it! Bruises and all! Pixel kicks ass, and TabasHo falls on her ass! And it’s great!
